Rohan Mehta

Senior Financial Analyst

London, United Kingdom · rohan.mehta@example.com · +44 7700 900162

Summary

Senior financial analyst with 7 years in FP&A across retail and manufacturing. Owns the monthly close commentary, the rolling forecast and the budget cycle for a £240M business unit, and is usually the person finance and non-finance teams come to when the variance doesn't make sense.

Experience

Senior Financial Analyst, Harlow & Vance Group

01.2022 – Present

  • Own the monthly close for a £240M business unit: journals, accruals and prepayments, variance analysis and the commentary the board reads.
  • Rebuilt the rolling 12-month forecast model in Excel and Power BI, cutting the forecast cycle from nine working days to four.
  • Identified £1.8M of margin leakage in freight recharges by reconciling ERP shipment data against invoiced cost, now a standing monthly control.
  • Partnered with supply chain and commercial finance on the annual budget for 14 cost centres, landing the submission two weeks ahead of the group deadline.
  • Led the audit walkthrough for revenue recognition with the external auditors, closing the cycle with no adjustments.
  • Built the pricing sensitivity model used in the annual customer negotiations, quantifying the margin impact of each tier before it was offered.
  • Mentor two analysts on modelling and close discipline, and run the monthly finance business-partnering session with the commercial team.

Financial Analyst, Brightline Manufacturing

04.2019 – 12.2021

  • Prepared month-end reporting packs for three plants, including balance sheet reconciliations and headcount cost analysis.
  • Built the capex tracking model used to approve £30M of spend, replacing four disconnected spreadsheets.
  • Automated the weekly cash flow report with Power Query, removing a full day of manual work each week.
  • Supported the ERP migration from Sage to SAP as finance lead for the plant workstream, reconciling opening balances to the penny.

Finance Graduate Trainee, Brightline Manufacturing

09.2018 – 03.2019

  • Rotated through accounts payable, management accounts and treasury while completing the first CIMA papers.

Why this example works

The close, the forecast and the budget are named explicitly

Those three cycles are what FP&A postings describe, and a recruiter scanning for them finds all three in the first two bullets. Vague phrasing like "supported finance processes" would hide the same work.

Audit and controls appear, because postings ask for them

Audit was the most-mentioned term in the sample, ahead of forecasting. Closing a revenue recognition walkthrough with no adjustments is the kind of line a finance manager reads twice.

One bullet shows money found, not just money reported

£1.8M of margin leakage, traced and turned into a standing control. Analysts who change outcomes rather than describe them are the ones who get promoted, and the resume should say which one you are.

The graduate role is kept to one line

It explains how the CIMA started and shows the progression at the same employer. That's all it needs to do; the detail belongs to the recent roles.

Two pages, used properly

Seven years, three roles and a professional qualification don't compress into one page honestly. Page two carries the earlier roles and education, not filler.

What financial analyst postings actually ask for

We pulled 10 live postings (financial analyst, United Kingdom) on 24 September 2026 and counted what they mention — counted across all 10 descriptions, so a posting that repeats a term counts each time. The example above uses these terms where they are genuinely true of the person, which is the only way to use them.

How those postings describe the work, in their own words:

  • prepare and review accounting journals, accruals, prepayments and other financial adjustments
  • analyse financial data, identify variances and determine root causes
  • maintain strong financial controls and compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and internal policies
  • analyse month-end results, balance sheet movements and key financial trends, providing insights and recommendations
  • build effective relationships with finance and non-finance stakeholders

Mistakes to avoid on a financial analyst resume

Listing duties straight from the job description

"Responsible for month-end close and reporting" describes the role, not you. Say what changed: the cycle time, the variance found, the control added.

No currency or scale

"Managed budgets" could mean £50K or £50M. The size of what you handle is the single fastest way for a hiring manager to place you.

Excel as a skill, with nothing behind it

Everyone lists it. Name the model you built and what it decided — and if your Power Query and modelling are genuinely strong, show them in a bullet.

Hiding the qualification status

Part-qualified is fine, and common. State the body and the stage plainly; ambiguity invites the assumption that it lapsed.

Frequently asked questions

Should I put my CIMA or ACCA status on a finance resume?

Yes, near the top or in a clear qualifications line, including the stage if you're part-qualified. Many UK finance postings screen on it directly.

How much detail about systems should I include?

Name the ERP and BI tools you've actually worked in — SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Power BI — because finance teams hire partly on system familiarity. Keep it to what you've used in anger.

Is a 2:1 degree classification worth including?

In the UK, yes, early in your career. After five or so years it matters much less than what you've closed, forecast and found.

Do I need to explain confidential figures?

Never disclose anything not already public. Percentages, ratios and rounded orders of magnitude make the same point without breaching anything.

Should a financial analyst resume be one page or two?

One page for the first five or six years; two beyond that, as here. What matters is that the second page carries substance rather than padding.
