Why this example works

OTIF and stock accuracy lead, because postings do

One of the postings we sampled set a 99% OTIF target in the job description itself. Naming your actual figure, and the movement in it, answers the screening question before it's asked.

Headcount, shifts and square metres place you instantly

48 staff, three shifts, 14,000 m², 1,100 orders a day. Warehouse hiring is largely about scale fit, and these four numbers do that work in one line.

Safety is a section, not an afterthought

Two audits with no findings, plus SAMTRAC. In logistics this is a genuine differentiator, and a compliance-heavy employer will look for it specifically.

Cost control is shown, not claimed

12% off fleet running cost, with the two actions that produced it. "Cost-conscious" would say nothing; this says what you'd do in the first quarter.

Progression at one employer is visible

Inventory Controller to Supervisor at Umoya, then Manager at Cape Provisions. Two entries for the same company show promotion rather than job-hopping.

What warehouse manager postings actually ask for

We pulled 10 live postings (warehouse manager, South Africa) on 24 September 2026 and counted what they mention — counted across all 10 descriptions, so a posting that repeats a term counts each time. The example above uses these terms where they are genuinely true of the person, which is the only way to use them.

How those postings describe the work, in their own words:

  • manage inventory levels, cycle counts, and stock movement (FIFO, slow-moving, aged stock)
  • optimize deliveries and vehicle utilization while maintaining a 99% OTIF service level
  • manage service providers, contracts, and SLA performance
  • optimize storage capacity and manage materials handling equipment
  • maintain a clean, organized warehouse aligned with company standards

Mistakes to avoid on a warehouse manager resume

Describing the warehouse instead of your management of it

A paragraph about the site tells a recruiter nothing. What did throughput, accuracy, safety or cost do while you ran it?

Leaving out team size

Managing 6 people and managing 60 are different jobs. Say which one you've done, including across shifts.

No systems named

WMS and ERP familiarity is screened for. Name the systems — SAP, Syspro, Sage, whichever — rather than writing "computer literate".

Safety and licences buried at the bottom

For operations roles these are often knockout criteria. Keep forklift licences and safety qualifications where they're easy to find.

Frequently asked questions

What should a warehouse manager put at the top of a resume?

Scale and service level: site size, headcount, shifts, orders or pallets a day, and your OTIF or accuracy figures. That's what decides whether you're a fit for the operation.

Do I need a degree for a warehouse manager role?

Often not. A diploma or certificate plus a track record of running a site carries most postings; safety qualifications and licences frequently matter more.

Should I list forklift and safety certifications?

Yes, with issuer and year. Some employers treat them as knockout requirements, and a missing licence is an easy reason to filter you out.

How do I show shift and people management?

State the headcount you're responsible for, the number of shifts, and one thing you changed about how they work — training, handovers, rostering, attrition.

Is two pages too long for an operations role?

Not at nine years. One page is right early on; past six to eight years, two pages is normal as long as the second one carries real detail.
