Kickresume vs Zety vs Resume.io: What They Actually Cost

Kickresume vs Zety vs Resume.io: What They Actually Cost

Most comparisons of resume builders quote the number printed largest on the pricing page. That number is frequently a trial, and on several of these tools the plan it turns into is not billed monthly — it is billed every four weeks, which is a different thing and about 8% more a year.

So here are four builders side by side, in dollars, with the recurring cost worked out properly. Checked October 2026. We are one of the four, which you should keep in mind throughout; where the others win a row, the table says so.

The comparison

Two things fall out of that table. Zety's annual package is genuinely cheap and beats Kickresume's by a clear margin. And the plans most people actually click — the ones with the small number on the front — cost between $288 and $389 a year.

The four-week year

This is the part worth the time it takes to read this article. Zety and Resume.io do not bill monthly. Both bill every four weeks, which they state on their own pricing cards:

"After 14 days, auto-renews at $25.95 billed every 4 weeks." — Zety

"After 7 days, auto-renews to $29.95 billed every 4 weeks." — Resume.io

A year has 52 weeks. Four into 52 is thirteen. So a four-week subscription charges you thirteen times a year, not twelve, and costs about 8% more than the figure you get by multiplying by twelve. Zety's is $337.35 rather than $311.40. Resume.io's is $389.35 rather than $359.40.

It is not two companies, either. In Kickresume's own October 2026 roundup of ten builders, four bill on a four-week cycle — Zety, Resume.io, Resume Now and ResumeGenius. It is close to a category convention among the tools that lead with a cheap trial.

None of this is hidden. It is printed on the card, under the price, in an ordinary typeface. It is also exactly the kind of sentence the eye slides past, and most reviews quote these figures as though they were monthly. Whatever you are comparing, convert both sides to a yearly number before you decide.

1. Kickresume

The most polished of the three, and the only one of them whose free plan gives you a real file. It is also the only one here that bills in calendar months, which after the section above is worth something.

What's good

  • The free plan produces a PDF. Four resume templates, four cover letter templates, and its FAQ is explicit that you can download "as many times as you want" on the free customisation options. That is unusual and it is to their credit.
  • Monthly means monthly. Twelve charges a year on the monthly plan, not thirteen.
  • Large paid library. 40+ resume and 40+ cover letter templates, plus website templates, mobile apps, and LinkedIn and PDF import.
  • 14-day money-back guarantee on paid plans.

What to watch

  • The monthly plan is the most expensive thing here. $24 a month is $288 a year, three times the annual plan for the same product.
  • The ATS checker is premium. You cannot check a resume without paying.
  • Everything is a subscription. No option to pay once for a single job hunt.

Pricing

  • Yearly — $8 per month, $96 a year
  • Quarterly — $18 per month, $54 every 3 months
  • Monthly — $24 per month
  • Free — 4 templates, PDF download allowed

2. Zety

The cheapest twelve months of the three big names, as long as you go straight to the annual package and never touch the trial.

What's good

  • $71.40 a year is a genuinely low annual price for a tool of this size, and it is paid once rather than drip-fed.
  • The free tier lets you build. Resume builder, templates, cover letter builder and cover letter templates are all available without paying.
  • Resume Check and Instant Job Matches are included on both paid packages.

What to watch

  • The free plan exports plain text only. "Download in TXT Format" is what the free column says. You can write your resume and you cannot send it.
  • The trial is not the price. $1.95 for fourteen days becomes $25.95 every four weeks — $337.35 a year if you leave it running.
  • Four-week billing, so thirteen charges a year rather than twelve.
  • The trial price moves by region. We were quoted €2.70 from Europe against the $1.95 published elsewhere, and those are not conversions of each other.

Pricing

  • Annual — $5.95 per month, $71.40 paid upfront
  • Pro — $1.95 for a 14-day trial, then $25.95 every 4 weeks
  • Free — build anything, export as .txt

3. Resume.io

The most expensive of the four over twelve months, and the only one with no annual plan at all.

What's good

  • The trial is a real trial. $2.95 buys seven days of everything — unlimited resumes and cover letters, all premium templates, unlimited PDF downloads.
  • A quarterly option exists at $49.95, which is the sensible way to buy it if you are buying it.
  • 7-day money-back guarantee.

What to watch

  • No annual plan. The cheapest twelve months is four quarterly charges, $199.80 — more than twice Zety's annual and more than three times ours.
  • The free plan exports plain text only, and caps you at one resume and one cover letter.
  • Four-week billing after the trial: $29.95 thirteen times is $389.35 a year.
  • Prices differ by region. The same page served us €2.95 then €24.95 from Europe, against $2.95 then $29.95 elsewhere.

Pricing

  • Quarterly — $49.95 every 3 months
  • Trial — $2.95 for 7 days, then $29.95 every 4 weeks
  • Free — one resume, one cover letter, .txt export

4. DraftCareer

Ours, so weigh this accordingly. We are much the smallest of the four — Kickresume's pricing page alone claims 70,455 customers — and if a large template library and a mobile app matter more to you than the billing cycle, one of the others is a reasonable choice.

What's good

  • $59.99 is the cheapest twelve months in the table, and it bills once a year, in calendar years.
  • Two passes that charge once and stop. $3.99 for 10 days, $14.99 for 60, no card kept on file and nothing to cancel. A job hunt runs about three months; a subscription is the wrong shape for that and a pass is not.
  • The free plan gives you a real PDF. one PDF download, no watermark, on any plan including the free one.
  • The ATS checker is free and needs no account. On the other three it sits behind the paywall or is not offered.
  • 48 resume templates on a paid plan, three on free.

What to watch

  • We are small and new. No mobile app, no Trustpilot history to speak of, and a much shorter track record than any of the other three.
  • One free PDF, not unlimited. Kickresume's free tier beats ours on that specific point.
  • Our prices are regional too. Dollars or rupees depending on where you are — the criticism in this article applies to us as much as to anyone.

Pricing

  • Annual — $5 per month, $59.99 a year
  • Quarterly — $19.99 every 3 months
  • Monthly — $7.99 per month
  • Passes — $3.99 for 10 days, $14.99 for 60, one charge
  • Free — 3 templates, one PDF download, no watermark
  • In India: ₹4,599 a year, ₹1,299 a quarter, ₹699 a month, passes at ₹249 and ₹999

Where these numbers come from

Kickresume, Zety and Resume.io prices were read from each company's own pricing page in October 2026 — kickresume.com/pricing, zety.com/pricing, resume.io/pricing — and cross-checked against Kickresume's own roundup of ten builders, last updated 8 October 2026, which publishes dollar prices for its competitors as well as itself. Worth knowing that its author discloses he works for Kickresume and that Kickresume is ranked first; the prices are still the most complete set published anywhere, and where we could check them independently they matched.

We deliberately did not use the general review sites. Three of them gave three different figures for Zety's renewal and disagreed about Kickresume's annual price by nearly a factor of two.

Prices also move, and they differ by country. Everything above will be wrong eventually, so before you pay anyone:

  1. Find the renewal sentence. It is under the price in smaller text. Read whether it says "month" or "4 weeks".
  2. Multiply it out to a year. Thirteen for four-week billing, twelve for monthly, four for quarterly.
  3. Try to download before you write anything. The export button is where a tool's real pricing lives.
  4. Check the file is text, not a picture. If you cannot highlight the words in the PDF, screening software reads none of it.

That works on any builder, whatever the prices have done since. Our piece on the five pricing models goes through the patterns in more detail, and free versus paid covers which limits actually matter.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheapest: Kickresume, Zety or Resume.io?
Over twelve months on each one's cheapest plan: Zety at $71.40, Kickresume at $96, and Resume.io at $199.80 because it has no annual plan. DraftCareer's annual is $59.99. Checked October 2026 — trial prices like $1.95 and $2.95 are not plans and should not be compared against annual rates.
Does Zety bill monthly?
No. Zety's Pro package bills every 4 weeks, not every month — its own card says it "auto-renews at $25.95 billed every 4 weeks" after the trial. There are thirteen four-week periods in a year, so that is $337.35 a year rather than the $311.40 you would get by multiplying by twelve.
Can you download a PDF free from Zety or Resume.io?
No. Both free plans are limited to plain text. Zety's free Basic Package lists "Download in TXT Format" and Resume.io's free plan says "Downloads only in TXT format". A .txt file has no layout at all, so it is not something you can attach to an application. Kickresume does allow free PDF downloads on its four free templates, and DraftCareer allows one free PDF with no watermark.
What is the catch with a $2.95 resume builder trial?
It is not a price, it is the first week. Resume.io's card says it "auto-renews to $29.95 billed every 4 weeks" after seven days. Zety's is $1.95 for fourteen days and then $25.95 every four weeks. Both disclose it on the card, directly under the big number. The catch is only that very few people read the small line.
Which resume builders bill every four weeks?
In Kickresume's own October 2026 roundup of ten builders, four of them bill on a four-week cycle: Zety, Resume.io, Resume Now and ResumeGenius. Kickresume itself bills monthly, quarterly and yearly. It is common enough in this category to be worth checking on any tool before you subscribe.
Is there a resume builder you can pay once and have it stop?
Few of the large ones offer it. Kickresume, Zety and Resume.io are all subscriptions. DraftCareer sells two passes that charge once and then end on their own, at $3.99 for 10 days and $14.99 for 60, with no card kept on file.
Do I need a subscription to write one resume?
Almost certainly not. One resume and a couple of applications is a job for a free plan, and several of these have one. A subscription starts to make sense when you are tailoring a different version for every role over a period of months.
